Water – the lifeblood of the worldWater is the lifeblood of the world and never more so than in Montréal, Canada, where the IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition will be held in September 2010. The city of Montréal is an exciting place for a congress and especially one on water. Built on an island on the St Lawrence River, the city of Montréal played an important role in Canadas development and today has a strong focus on clean water and sustainable development. With more than 100 languages spoken, Montréal is also one of North Americas most cultural and cosmopolitan cities, offering fine food and hospitality that blend old world, modern and French influences. What is this event? The IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition is a high-profile international event attracting thousands of water professionals and organisations from across the globe. It is organised by the International Water Association (IWA) and in previous years has been held in Vienna, Beijing, Marrakech, Melbourne, Berlin and Paris. In 2010, the Association is partnering with the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) and the Canadian Association on Water Quality (CAWQ) to hold the event in Montréal. The strategic intentions for the congress are to engage with the dynamics of the water sector and its interfaces, including urbanisation, climate change and energy.
